How to get back in the swing of things after winter break

It can be tough to settle into a new routine after winter break. It’s not like summer vacation where you have months off from studying and are fully revitalized and ready to get back to work. It’s not like spring or fall break where it’s short enough that you’re still in the mindset of being at university.

No, winter break is a whole other beast. It’s enough time that you feel like you’re done with school but it’s not enough time to be fully ready to get right back to the books. Here are some things to do to get you back into the swing of things at school.

Organize your Google calendar with all your classes and weekly commitments.

This is pretty self-explanatory, but it’s good to update your calendar because then you can really lay out what you will have to do on a weekly basis. Google calendar works for me since it’s synched with my school email, making it easy to add appointments.

Quickly look over anything your professor posted before the first day of class.

Usually professors are good about adding materials, like the syllabus and schedule, to your Moodle site (at N.C. State). Make sure to look over this before getting to the first day of class. You can use the schedule to update your calendar with important dates like when you have assignments or exams. Also, read over some of the first material to get a good idea of what you’re going to be learning.

Check out events that are happening around campus.

We are in basketball season right now, so make sure to get tickets for the next games to get back into the spirit of being on campus. Also be sure to check out any welcome-back events.
