Some students at UNC are refusing to buy food or pay for parking on campus for a month in an effort to get the university to remove the Silent Sam monument.

It’s been almost a month since the first protests at Silent Sam asked the university to remove the Confederate monument.
Now, students at UNC are changing their tactics. They still want the university to get rid of Silent Sam, and they’re trying to make that happen by refusing to buy things on UNC’s campus. That includes the Student Stores, the main dining hall, cafes, Alpine, Wendy’s and Starbucks – even parking garages.
The boycott started Monday and will run until Oct. 18.
